My Canine Journey
Early Affection and Inspiration
My journey with dogs began 50+ year ago, well before I became a professional, shaped by an affection for all things canine. Early encounters with dogs fuelled my fascination with canine behaviour, inspiring me to learn not just about dogs themselves, but about the complex relationships humans build with them. It started as a personal passion. It quietly grew into a vocation. I gained an understanding of the canine mind. This helped me comprehend their thoughts and behaviours. Over the years, I’ve observed countless dog training techniques, watching them evolve and sometimes disappear. Every dog I’ve worked with has added to my knowledge, and my passion for these loyal companions.
Professional Growth and Industry Challenges
The next chapter of my canine journey began when I took on the challenge of launching and managing a home-from-home dog daycare and boarding enterprise, which I ran successfully for 14 years. Over time, this venture grew and transformed, leading me to delve deeply into the intricate world of dog training and the human connections. Nevertheless, it soon became clear that the industry was anything but simple; it was harsh, unforgiving, and extraordinarily complex. Armed with the knowledge that backed up everything I’d ever learnt about all the dogs that crossed my path I became a balanced trainer.
This stark realization prompted a pivotal life decision. I chose to sidestep away from the industry and embark on a new path, relocating from the Cotswold to Wales with my man and our quartet of beloved (daft) canine companions. I didn’t care about the battles, I cared about dogs and their humans, and the idea for this site was born.
Building a new vision
Within the serene landscapes, I laid the foundation for this website. My vision is to foster unity among the diverse and often conflicting ways of dog training. My aim to create a platform where different approaches can come together, providing a cohesive and compassionate understanding of dog training, all for the advantage of dogs. My hope is that this endeavour will help bridge gaps and offer a more harmonious path ahead for trainers, handlers, professionals, and, most importantly, the dogs themselves. A place where questions can be asked by professionals, and answered by professionals.
Understanding the complexities of the relationship between dogs and their owners is crucial for anyone working with dogs. This connection is not just about basic training or care; it involves a deep comprehension of canine behaviour, communication, and emotional needs. By recognizing these intricate aspects, those who work with dogs can foster a more harmonious and effective partnership, ensuring that both the dogs and their owners thrive in their interactions. Appreciating these nuances leads to better training outcomes, improved well-being for the dogs, and a more fulfilling experience for everyone involved.
